Your goal? I'd love your goal to be to become the best writers that you can. That means giving EVERY task your best, putting in as much detail as needed, thinking hard and using all the conventions that we learn (grammar, punctuation etc). Part of being great writers involves being proofreaders and editors of your work. You may also be able to help others out by reading over their work. I think that if you were to talk to any writer, they would tell you that it is always important to look at your work closely. It's also very important that you decide on a point where you can be CONTENT with your work's finished product.
Oh and remember that at school (unless we specifically say otherwise) we use FORMAL English. That means no text talk or slang.
Reading
It's really important that you keep up to date with your reading. Try each night to spend about 15 minutes reading SOMETHING - and even take a moment to write down something that you read about, what it meant to you or what you learned. Current Events The same goes for CURRENT EVENTS. It's VITAL that you keep up to date with what's going on around you. Take a moment to read a paper, watch a bit of news and/or even listen to the radio news every now and then. You will be amazed at how much that knowledge can help you at school and in life. (It's true!)
Speaking and Listening
Finally, this is also a place where it's important to be community members who LISTEN to the words of others, giving everyone a chance to speak. We also want to HEAR you too. Remember that we are considerate and thoughtful when we speak. Sometimes we will chat informally, but at other times you will need to make FORMAL speeches. Now, at times that can feel scary, but together we will work on the skills needed to get this done. Skills? Speaking clearly, making eye contact, being confident with what you have to say. EXCITING!!!
